Tips for Writers: Mental Resets and Self Growth
May 17, 2023Tip for Writers: Exercise for a Mental Reset
Here's a photograph looking out on Skaneateles Lake in Upstate NY. This lake served as inspiration for Coral Lake in the Scarlett Bell and Wolf Lake series.
Last week, I checked a major goal off my bucket list by riding around Skaneateles Lake on my bike. 40 miles. Lots of steep hills. I hit an area of gravel on the shoulder and fell over once: scraped knee, no big deal. Made me feel like a kid again.
Getting out in nature and exercising builds my creativity and helps me compartmentalize my business and personal time. I always recommend spending a day in the sun for a healthy mental reset.
Grow Every Day
As much as self-development books are important, self-development courses are important, and meditation is incredibly important, what is most important is treating every minute of every day as an opportunity to grow.
This is your self-development course, and it runs 24/7.
So whenever you run into a trying situation, and you don't act the way that your best self would, you need to treat that as a learning opportunity and ask yourself what you can could have done better? What should your have done better?
Sound mind = better writer.
